Oh yeah! I had a birthday! My Grandma and cousin came down for a day! It was great and I had lots of fun. Seventeen still seems super old though! You know how you've always looked up to our older cousins and friends, dreaming of one day being as “grown-up” as them. The morning of my birthday, I woke up and was like, “NO! IT can't be me that this is happening to. It's just not possible. I feel OOLLDD!” For some strange reason, I can't grasp the thought that I, janelle, am 17... There's something about that number that is really weird. So much change lies just around the bend. On my birthday we just kicked back, after being embarassingly sung to at church. We played chess, mancala, did puzzles, and shooting marbles. Nothing big or out there. I did pre-order an ice cream cake – cookies n' cream (Oreo) with devil's cake, all topped with pink and orange daisies buried in a grassy green icing! Sunday – Grandma and my cousin came down and we took a trip through the botanical garden and butterfly pavilion.
However, we had an unfortunate mishap. My mother was examining some ducks in the bushes, as she moved in for a closer look. Her foot slipped on a boulder and down she crashed, gashing her head against a rock that stood about knee high. Rolling over to her back, into the pathway, she fortunately escaped unconsciousness by a hair. A concusion may have occurred, but we don't know. Mom's glasses were also pushed across the bridge of her nose, which removed a chunk of flesh. Needless to say, kids stared with horrified expressions, but it is healing “OK” now. No broken bones, hallelujah!
In two weeks I'll be getting my provisional driver's license, which I must hold for a year. That's pretty exciting! I just need a couple ore hours and my log is fulfilled.
I've been planning, for several months now, to redo my room this fall. Hopefully sometime before Thanksgiving we'll have it all completed, but who knows. Unofficially, I wan tot do two pastel tones – yellow and orange, with a daisy theme. I know exactly how I picture it, it's a matter of time and more tie. I have most of the “supplies” already.
As for school, things are OK. Chemistry stinks, Advanced Math is bearable, US & World Histories are enjoyable, Bible is fun, and I still dread English. So not much has changed in that aspect. I'm going to take the PSAT again, on October 15th, so I'm reluctantly studying for that as well. I just signed up for the ACT today, which will be administered on October 26th. That adds yet another task to my work load. Oh well, it's necessary I guess.
It's autumn, once more, and there is so much to look forward to. Dad travels a lot, which is a bummer, but that'll calm down soon. Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite though! It's so wonderful that words don't give it justice, in the least. I love this time of year! I found myself playing a Christmas CD just the other day.
In two weeks, my (3of4) adorable cousins are coming to spend a week with us, while my Aunt J and Uncle T journey off to Mexico! It's going to be awesome! I really can't wait. We'll be celebrating my cousin R's birthday while she's here too! Plans are already being made! Hmm... hee hee
This past weekend we had our Adventurers' and Pathfinders' Induction Service. Thought, I'm in not in the club (I don't have time to officially commit or want to), I'll tag along sometimes. Right now dozens of plans for fund raising are being made for the 2009 OshKosh camporee. I may go, if there is left over finances. An opportunity may be available for me to follow our club everywhere, video documenting our entire experience. We shall see. I have really been enjoying lately, the audio booth at every church event so this would be nice! In fact, I'll be at the church tonight, running the sound system.
We still make trips into town every couple weeks. Though it has become more frequent now that Nemo is in the process of orthodontia.
I'm actually “grounded” from the phones and computers until November 1st, so I'm hand writing this all out at the moment. It's a slow process compared to typing 80 WPM. My brain is in 5th gear, but my hand has reached it's max. Oh well, it's my only option at this point in time, and I have so much to say, that it must be done. We don't have a TV anymore, but are beginning to copy much better without it. So to keep me busy, I've been working on several projects, narrowing them down one by one. I bought some light safe green and country rose pink yarns and have been making afghan using the new “wave stitch” that I recently learned and absolutely love. It's so easy. My sister and I have been co-working on the task of using up all my spare, leftover yarns – stuff that would otherwise be considered useless. With 6'' squares, we're planning on mixing up a misc. patch worked afghan. After those are completed, I'll finish up the other quilt, five afghans, and many needlework kits that I have waiting for me. I have my work cut out for me. Seriously, I don't need ANYTHING of any type. I'm actually downsizing all of my belongings, majorly decluttering my room. No pressure, but gifts aren't that big with me. Saving for a new piece of equipment is – if you don't catch my drift! And of course, a car would be included in that want list of mine! lol
I took lots of pictures of butterflies and a few here and there throughout the gardens. :) After much deliberation, I chose Olive Garden for our dinner that evening, as a special treat. During a 45-minute wait, Nemo and I sat with our cousin, outside, practicing our aim of flicking rocks to/at each other. Bread sticks, salad, and several glasses of water later, ravioli arrived quenching my hunger. And just as I'd exclaimed how I dislike being sung to on my birthday, our waitress and many others appeared with a cake, lit with candles, and an Italian song about “good fortune.” Humiliated, I sliced the rich chocolate delicacy up for my family and I.
At home, we stuff scrumptious ice crème cake inot our already full tummies! And enjoyed the time together with our family.
Last week, we used our almost 3-y/o movie tickets, finally. Since we'd first heard that “Fireproof” was in the making, we'd been planning to see it. Anything made by Sherwood Pictures and written by the Kendrick brothers has to be great. We've seen both “Flywheel” and “Facing the Giants” and were impressed. So as soon as “Fireproof” hit the theaters, we were there. It's everything and more that you expect! Humor, sadness, laughter, suspense – all intermingled with a spiritual theme. I advise you to go and see the next chance that arrives at your doorstep. It's the best yet! An absolute must see! I can't wait till it's available in stores. We're going to get the book too! As well as the “Flywheel” book and movie. I bought the book “Facing the Giants” and it comes super close to surpassing the film itself. All of their productions are inspirational.

It's been quite a while, hasn't it? Going on two months now; wow, it's about time I filled you in. From the beginning...
After we returned from the OBX, unpacked, reorganized, and whatever else was involved, it was back to school. This past summer (one week after school let out – two weeks before it was back in session) I was gone more than I was home, as you've probably heard. And today, six speedy weeks later, we're still pressing on full steam.
Our church's evangelistic Prophecy Seminar was still progressing nicely (we missed the first 2 out of 6 weeks) with an average of 18 or so new people attending each evening. Thankfully, the schedule wasn't too rigorous – only every other night and twice on Sabbaths. We were truly blessed with fourteen wonderful new members, and a few more prospective ones!
Over the summer, while I was away traveling all across the United States, we acquired a new pastor through a swap. It's been nice – they're younger and have more energy; Pastor Jeremy, his wife Junelle, and their three boys are very sweet people!
