Fill in the B_a_k_

Hey everyone! Tuesday, September 30, 2008 It's been quite a while, hasn't it? Going on two months now; wow, it's about time I filled you in. From the beginning... After we returned from the OBX, unpacked, reorganized, and whatever else was involved, it was back to school. This past summer (one week after school let out – two weeks before it was back in session) I was gone more than I was home, as you've probably heard. And today, six speedy weeks later, we're still pressing on full steam. Our church's evangelistic Prophecy Seminar was still progressing nicely (we missed the first 2 out of 6 weeks) with an average of 18 or so new people attending each evening. Thankfully, the schedule wasn't too rigorous – only every other night and twice on Sabbaths. We were truly blessed with fourteen wonderful new members, and a few more prospective ones! Over the summer, while I was away traveling all across the United States, we acquired a new pastor through a swap. It's been nice – they're younger and have more energy; Pastor Jeremy, his wife Junelle, and their three boys are very sweet people! As of recently, I've been putting more of my photographs up for sale on the Internet. Check it out sometime. If you end up joining yourself, please use this as my referral link. Oh yeah! I had a birthday! My Grandma and cousin came down for a day! It was great and I had lots of fun. Seventeen still seems super old though! You know how you've always looked up to our older cousins and friends, dreaming of one day being as “grown-up” as them. The morning of my birthday, I woke up and was like, “NO! IT can't be me that this is happening to. It's just not possible. I feel OOLLDD!” For some strange reason, I can't grasp the thought that I, janelle, am 17... There's something about that number that is really weird. So much change lies just around the bend. On my birthday we just kicked back, after being embarassingly sung to at church. We played chess, mancala, did puzzles, and shooting marbles. Nothing big or out there. I did pre-order an ice cream cake – cookies n' cream (Oreo) with devil's cake, all topped with pink and orange daisies buried in a grassy green icing! Sunday – Grandma and my cousin came down and we took a trip through the botanical garden and butterfly pavilion. However, we had an unfortunate mishap. My mother was examining some ducks in the bushes, as she moved in for a closer look. Her foot slipped on a boulder and down she crashed, gashing her head against a rock that stood about knee high. Rolling over to her back, into the pathway, she fortunately escaped unconsciousness by a hair. A concusion may have occurred, but we don't know. Mom's glasses were also pushed across the bridge of her nose, which removed a chunk of flesh. Needless to say, kids stared with horrified expressions, but it is healing “OK” now. No broken bones, hallelujah! In two weeks I'll be getting my provisional driver's license, which I must hold for a year. That's pretty exciting! I just need a couple ore hours and my log is fulfilled. I've been planning, for several months now, to redo my room this fall. Hopefully sometime before Thanksgiving we'll have it all completed, but who knows. Unofficially, I wan tot do two pastel tones – yellow and orange, with a daisy theme. I know exactly how I picture it, it's a matter of time and more tie. I have most of the “supplies” already. As for school, things are OK. Chemistry stinks, Advanced Math is bearable, US & World Histories are enjoyable, Bible is fun, and I still dread English. So not much has changed in that aspect. I'm going to take the PSAT again, on October 15th, so I'm reluctantly studying for that as well. I just signed up for the ACT today, which will be administered on October 26th. That adds yet another task to my work load. Oh well, it's necessary I guess. It's autumn, once more, and there is so much to look forward to. Dad travels a lot, which is a bummer, but that'll calm down soon. Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite though! It's so wonderful that words don't give it justice, in the least. I love this time of year! I found myself playing a Christmas CD just the other day. In two weeks, my (3of4) adorable cousins are coming to spend a week with us, while my Aunt J and Uncle T journey off to Mexico! It's going to be awesome! I really can't wait. We'll be celebrating my cousin R's birthday while she's here too! Plans are already being made! Hmm... hee hee This past weekend we had our Adventurers' and Pathfinders' Induction Service. Thought, I'm in not in the club (I don't have time to officially commit or want to), I'll tag along sometimes. Right now dozens of plans for fund raising are being made for the 2009 OshKosh camporee. I may go, if there is left over finances. An opportunity may be available for me to follow our club everywhere, video documenting our entire experience. We shall see. I have really been enjoying lately, the audio booth at every church event so this would be nice! In fact, I'll be at the church tonight, running the sound system. We still make trips into town every couple weeks. Though it has become more frequent now that Nemo is in the process of orthodontia. I'm actually “grounded” from the phones and computers until November 1st, so I'm hand writing this all out at the moment. It's a slow process compared to typing 80 WPM. My brain is in 5th gear, but my hand has reached it's max. Oh well, it's my only option at this point in time, and I have so much to say, that it must be done. We don't have a TV anymore, but are beginning to copy much better without it. So to keep me busy, I've been working on several projects, narrowing them down one by one. I bought some light safe green and country rose pink yarns and have been making afghan using the new “wave stitch” that I recently learned and absolutely love. It's so easy. My sister and I have been co-working on the task of using up all my spare, leftover yarns – stuff that would otherwise be considered useless. With 6'' squares, we're planning on mixing up a misc. patch worked afghan. After those are completed, I'll finish up the other quilt, five afghans, and many needlework kits that I have waiting for me. I have my work cut out for me. Seriously, I don't need ANYTHING of any type. I'm actually downsizing all of my belongings, majorly decluttering my room. No pressure, but gifts aren't that big with me. Saving for a new piece of equipment is – if you don't catch my drift! And of course, a car would be included in that want list of mine! lol I took lots of pictures of butterflies and a few here and there throughout the gardens. :) After much deliberation, I chose Olive Garden for our dinner that evening, as a special treat. During a 45-minute wait, Nemo and I sat with our cousin, outside, practicing our aim of flicking rocks to/at each other. Bread sticks, salad, and several glasses of water later, ravioli arrived quenching my hunger. And just as I'd exclaimed how I dislike being sung to on my birthday, our waitress and many others appeared with a cake, lit with candles, and an Italian song about “good fortune.” Humiliated, I sliced the rich chocolate delicacy up for my family and I. At home, we stuff scrumptious ice crème cake inot our already full tummies! And enjoyed the time together with our family. Last week, we used our almost 3-y/o movie tickets, finally. Since we'd first heard that “Fireproof” was in the making, we'd been planning to see it. Anything made by Sherwood Pictures and written by the Kendrick brothers has to be great. We've seen both “Flywheel” and “Facing the Giants” and were impressed. So as soon as “Fireproof” hit the theaters, we were there. It's everything and more that you expect! Humor, sadness, laughter, suspense – all intermingled with a spiritual theme. I advise you to go and see the next chance that arrives at your doorstep. It's the best yet! An absolute must see! I can't wait till it's available in stores. We're going to get the book too! As well as the “Flywheel” book and movie. I bought the book “Facing the Giants” and it comes super close to surpassing the film itself. All of their productions are inspirational. Besides school, that's the news that is news. Be sure to stay tuned for a post on “name brands,” coming up in the “near” future. Also more updates (as this is over a month old) are in store, as well as a whole episode about my little crazy cousins. :) Have a great day in Jesus! Love and God's blessings, `janelle`

FAMILY - Forever Always Mine I Love You

As I finish this glorious vacation's story, though I wish it never had to end, I want to dedicate it to my family, who are a Godsend and everything I could ever imagine or hope for!

To infinity and beyond, goes my love to each of my family members. Each is so unique in their own special way and holds a very honored spot in my heart! I cherish you each forever and love you dearly!”

Never let the distractions of life change the way you feel towards your family!

As a song says: “It's hard to believe, but you're gonna miss this. You're gonna want this back. You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast. These are the good times, so take a good look around. You may not know it now, but you're gonna miss this!”

I want to hear someone say to me one day, “the world will never be the same, and you're to blame.” That is why my goal in life is to change the world one little heartbeat at a time.

Tearful Goodbyes

Day Twelve

Rising just as the sun rose above the horizon, I shot a couple dozen pictures of our last morning in the OBX.

The final, dreaded, teary goodbyes are always the worst part, but are often more bearable when you look forward to seeing each other again. Separation to go our own ways, dreadful.. Hot, salty tears streaming down your streaked face... Ok, I won't even go there! Thanksgiving is only three months away!

We cleaned the house, headed out, and drove to our hotel in Raleigh, where we relaxed in a pool without salt water.

As a surprise, my parents took us to dinner at Magiannos, which has the best eggplant Parmesan. Terribly, they ran out and we had to settle for ravioli and penne pasta with chocolate cake for dessert.

We packed up one last time and slept, preparing for a long day ahead of us.

Day Thirteen

Up early once again, with food in our stomachs, and rental car returned, we caught our flight out – to Orlando.

Flying overhead JAX, I saw Nana's neighborhood from above, recognizing bridges and the AFB.

We had pizza (AGAIN... I'm sick of pizza. You eat so much of it on vacation) and smoothies and readily boarded the plane home. Our friends picked us up and we ate burritos for the first time in two weeks.

Being on the east coast for a week, you'd think we would encounter hurricane type weather there... but no. We're eating dinner in town here locally and this horrendous storm blew past. Rain and hail fell horizontally, trees bent over, and signs flailed in torment.

Back to our Home Sweet Home, we unpacked and readied ourselves to attend a seminar that our church is holding.

I actually got to sleep in several hours longer than normal! Though I still haven't caught up quite enough of significance.

Day Fourteen

Was spent with Dad, who took the day off. I edited our portraits for straight horizon lines, etc. And went into town.

Be looking, in the future sometime hopefully, for a post about “name brands.”

I found two cool, matted pictures of Gerber daisies, my favorite flowers on earth, that I will frame and decorate my room with once I remodel this fall.

Off to the East

Hey everyone, Just a short note. We're heading out in a couple of hours for our next vacation. It's going to be a blast, thought I'm terribly bummed one of my cousins can't make it. It's definitely not going to be the same; our family won't be complete - but we'll make the best of it! She will be dreadfully missed, FOR SURE! :) I'll try to keep you guys updated, but don't know when I'll have Internet service at our hotels or house. You may have to wait until I get back, like the last trip. That's probably the way things will go, but you never know. OK, I seriously have got to get moving, so we aren't late. :) Have a fantastic time! Check out my new blog layout and enjoy the beach music and think of me! Did anyone say "She's spoiled?" You're 100% right! :) Blessings and love to all, `janelle`

Safe Return

Day 21

We rose early, finished packing, and drove to Spokane, where we parted with teary goodbyes as I made my way home (though I'm only here for 2 years and I'm going back HOME, where my heart really is, Idaho or Montana!).

Eight hour flights are not exactly thrilling, but an old lady taught me how to play one-handed Solitaire!

Back on solid ground, I collected my luggage and my mom met me out front. My cousin came down from CO to spend a couple days with us too!

Since I've come back with a killer tan, I've just been taking things easy and catching up! But now that I've done that, I'm going to edit all my stories, add the pictures, and voila, post them for the “public.” Hope you've enjoyed! Have a great day! And stay tuned, because in less than two weeks I'm headed back East for another vacation!

Three weeks of my life have past that I will never get back, but they were three incredible weeks that I will never forget!

God bless,

`janelle`

Summer!

Summer! The season we wish was the longest! The time to break away from an old routine and travel the globe! Imagine yourself at a dream vacation spot that no human eyes have ever beheld.

There are:

Majestic rolling mountains

Serene blue skies

Glistening grass blowing

in the breeze

Warming sunshine

Delicate petals of beauty

Deep shadowed meadows

Powerful infinite waves

Chipper red robins

Fluffy white clouds

Torrential raindrops

Croaking bullfrogs

Soaring, swift fowls

Sweet blossoming fruit trees

Frightening midnight

thunderstorms

Mighty raging brook

Towering limbs above

Monstrous, fallen boulders

Sly, slithering snakes

Ripening wild huckleberries

Twinkling stars reflected in lake

Mustangs gallivanting in fields

Dawning spectacular sunrises

This is my definition of summer!

“like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” James 1:6b

Stay tuned, as three weeks of stories are headed this way! :)

Unexpected Blessings

“All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God.” Deuteronomy 28:2

Wow! :) SO much has happened in the past week! It's not even a whole week too!

On Thursday, we were in town, running errands, shopping, and whatnot. I had been looking at buying a laptop, but the seller never responded. Knowing I needed an office program (MS Office, etc.) that was included, I was only looking at a limited selection of used laptops. I happened to come across this program called OpenOffice. Stunned, I realized that it was just like MS Office, but free! :) That opened a whole new horizon-laptops without a preloaded office program. I found this one Compaq Presario V2000, which I really liked! My dad called the company/person Thursday morning, but it already been sold. The guy had one just like it, of his own however! :) I thought about it, and finally decided to drive all the way across town to take a look. After all our errands around town, I played around with this little laptop. It's so cute, the perfect size, and very much what I needed. It is now mine and is what I'm on right now! :) Bringing my new toy home, I accessed our wireless, downloading all my necessary programs, preparing it for use. I'm still somewhat shocked that it's mine, but love it to death! :) hee hee. Now I have a laptop of mine, to take with me as a travel and share my stories with y'all more promptly, but to store my pictures on temporarily too. :) I'm not stuck at a desktop anymore either.

Anyway, that's one exciting thing! The other is that in less than three days, I leave for my first vacation of the summer! I can't wait! Do I have to express patience? Aww, this is torture! Oh well, I guess that's life! :) I already have my suitcase(s) all packed up and mostly ready for departure. I can't wait to see what is in store once I arrive, blessings, adventures, and whatever else! :) Oh, and I don't think I've mentioned, but I get to spend two days at the Grand Canyon too, which should be amazing! I've never been there before. I'll be sure to share some great shots with y'all!

Well, I should probably go for now. I need to finish up this afghan that I'm crocheting. My goal is to finish it by tomorrow night, which hopefully I'll make (the goal and afghan, both)! :)

Hope you're all doing good! And stay tuned for more stories in the weeks to come! :) Have a great day! Love you all!

God bless you,

`janelle`

What Time is It? SUMMERTIME!!!

“Summer is near.” Luke 21:30

What time is it? Summertime, it’s my vacation, the time of my life, anticipation, now my time is all my own! Summertime is finally here! Sweet summertime! [^ quotes from two different songs ^] Bring it on – craziness, fun, late nights and mornings, high temperatures, boredom, relaxation.

This summer is jam packed – with WILDNESS!!! You bet! I’m going to spend three weeks with my best friend. I leave the 19th and return the 9th. It’s going to be an absolute blast! J That’s why I’ve been trying to get things all caught up and arranged, so I can leave in total FREEDOM! I can’t express how excited I am. The worst part is WAITING. Well next to facing my hydrophobia (fear of 6’ of deeper water), which should be ‘real’ “entertaining.” Ha ha, NOT! I don’t know how I’m going to pull this one off, but at least I’ll have two weeks of being home before I head off again, this time to the beach house with my mom’s ENTIRE family! J It should be a memorable summer, to say the least!

So yeah! That’s what is happening this summer with me! J I’d love to tell you more about it all, but you’ll just have to wait until it happens. I know, it’s torture, but I have to put up with it too!

For now, I better run. I have a few things that need to get done around here before the day fades! J You have a great evening and keep pressing that patience button! J It’s a virtue you know! The post about FL ’07 is coming up next too!

“The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray.” Proverbs 12:26 I am so amazingly blessed to have such awesome friends in my life!

God’s blessings,

`janelle`

Blessings of Goodness

“For You meet him with the blessings of goodness; You set a crown of pure gold upon his head.” Psalm 21:3

As I’ve said before, blessings may come in all sizes, but there is no such thing as a small blessing. This should be the last post, before I leave! But to where? You’ll have to wait to find out.

Just as soon as I thought my life was dull, excitement came into play. I’ll digress more on that later, but for now…!

I’m out of school! :) Hallelujah! I’m, finally, a junior! It hasn’t even been a week yet, though I’m bored as ever. With no school work I am struggling to find things to spend my time on.

The first day of break we went to my little brother’s birthday party; it was at a swimming pool in town. OMW! They had three pools there, with a combined maximum occupancy of 750 - just plain razio! (razio = inside joke) Outrageous chaos doesn’t even begin to explain the noise and action at that place! J My head was swarming by the end of the day, ready for some solitude and serenity. Even with three giggly girls in the back seat while I drove home, it was much more of a relaxed atmosphere.

On Tuesdays I’m volunteering at one of our local libraries for their summer reading program, kiddie crafts and reading time. My work there is very microscopic, but it gives me something to do and escape my four walls.

I discovered this new site, CutCaster, where I can sell pictures. It has a very similar set up to the last site I was on, which unfortunately and reluctantly shut down. I uploaded almost 150 pictures the other day, and have named 1/3 of them so far. I’m hoping to get all of them done before I leave and submit them for sale! Prayerfully most will be accepted.

A few of goals before I leave are to catch up on my blog, emails, finish pictures so they can be submitted, and complete one of my afghan projects. That reminds… I have buckets of yarn all over the living room that I need to pick up soon. Summer time for me is all about catching up on stuff and relaxing! J Well, typically, but this summer is going to have more of a twist to it! ;)

Well I better run for now! J There is still more to come about my summer plans and I’ll soon be closing up FL ’07. You have a great one and be on the lookout for more updates! J

I am truly blessed to have the life that I do!

God bless,

`janelle`

My Cup Overflows

(NOTE: THE "J"s in the following document are supposed to be smiley faces. Or frowns. Sorry for the inconvenience, there was some mix up between computing.) “My Cup Overflows” “My cup overflows,” Psalm 23:5d They say that blessings come in all sizes, but I believe there isn’t such a thing as a small blessing. I am so blessed that I don’t know where the blessings begin or end… Most likely at the beginning of my life is when blessings were first bestowed upon me, but that’s way too far back to rewind. Being more reasonable, I’ll start with Oklahoma Family Camp, back in April of this year. Even that seems like such a long time ago, but I’ll manage somehow! Early April… SPRING BREAK! Finally, a spare moment away from the books! J Something that I’d envied for a long time! Since around Thanksgiving time it’d been school non-stop, and then when Grandma got sick it was all just havoc. Continual this and that, always taking care of one thing or another, just never a break from one thing to the next. After we’d taken Grandma back home in mid March things began to settle. Spring break was truly something I craved! Packing up our suit-cases and vehicle, I prepared for our long-awaited trip! J Once we had everything lodged in and snug, we hit the road, stopping about half way for the night. The next morning we got up fairly early, after a restless and sleepless night, and traveled on, completing the last leg of our journey to family camp! Reunions, hugs, and laughter, filled my heart and I just lavished every second with my dear friends-the main highlight of the trip! When we first got there I was waiting around, looking for a particular friend. Finally I saw their car drive by, and I, leaving my parents without any notice or hesitance, ran out of the auditorium through the double doors. Yelling to my sister, who was nearby with some horses, I heard my name being called. Looking to my right, I saw my friend! J It was like as if we were in slow motion, running to one another with arms opened, ready for a jolting embrace! That’s exactly what happened too! Happiness was all my mind knew! J Then we, literally, ran into some other friends, almost knocking them down with our enthusiasm as we headed over to the cafeteria/lodge to help set up for the lunch meal. With that through, my sister and I went to help our friends set up their tenting quarters with the contents from their vehicle. Next came the thunderstorm! After completing the necessary tasks for that moment, we made our way to a cabin where we hung out with old and new friends for the next hour or two. J Fun times! J The rain was torrential. In fact, if I remember correctly it was partly hail at one point. Or maybe that was later on, or both. It was ugly, how it came down so fast, steady, and in such dense quantities. We gladly waited it out in a cabin! Finally, dinner and the evening meeting! Such great & amazingly inspiring sermons we enjoyed, which would continue four times daily, through Sunday morning. Thankfully, after the meeting the rain had subsided for the most part and we retreated to our cabin for a disturbed sleep. It was already late once we got everything situated and in its proper home inside our reserved, temporal space. It must have been near eleven PM by the time I curled up in my sleeping bag, ready as ever for some quietness. But no, it wasn’t to be. The stupid rat-the stupid, stupid RAT! This little guy (luckily, I never personally encountered “him”) perched himself right above where my head lay, gently, yet not so quietly, scratching at the ceiling. For what seemed like forever, but probably only 10 minutes or less, he was contentedly knawing at the boards above. How annoying the little pest was. At first it totally freaked me out; I was ready to have my dad kill the guy. I even tried knocking on the ceiling, trying to scare him away, but no, that didn’t work either. Finally I was sick of him, and scared he would land on me somehow or someway, but I managed to drown out the sound and muffle the noise, sleeping until… L So… I’m a morning person, for SURE! It’s just a dead, permanent fact. Well, I know that sometimes my family sometimes gets annoyed with me when I am bubbly in the mornings and they want to sleep (maybe I’m a little annoying too). But I got to experience it for myself. We had this one girl in our cabin who was all jibber, jabber from 5 AM until breakfast at 7:30. Now, I had already dealt with a mouse preventing sleep, and now this… with only 5-6 hours of sleep. I couldn’t believe it! This girl went on and on about her hair, and her sister and this and that. NON-stop! I just wanted to sleep in as long as I could, but no. The showers were running from before 5 until breakfast; there wasn’t a chance I’d be getting up earlier than that to take a shower, it’d have to wait until the short break between breakfast and the first meeting. I was in misery! Tired, groggy, and a little upset, I somehow made it through the rest of the day! Adrenaline can do wonders sometimes! J Tasting my own medicine was not that tasty or fun! But I still enjoy every minute of being a morning person! J I won’t go on about the meetings, you’ll just have to come next year to experience them for yourselves and I’ll drag you there if I have to! J (Yes, it’s THAT GOOD J) The food there was fabulous! J After lunch, the few of us who were available (my sister, 2 other girls, and I) ran down the hill to the lake. We were planning on going canoeing. But when the guy asked us if any of us were over 18… we had to reply with a reluctant “NO.” I didn’t have my cell on me (I’d given it up for fear of ruining it in the water), so I borrowed one to call a friend. No answer. So we quickly ran back up to the cafeteria; time was short, they’d be closing in 20 minutes or so. One of our friends was too busy. Finally, I spotted a friend I’d met the year before. Running up to him, I inquired to be sure, that he was over 18. He was-so we ran back down to the lake with the promise that he would meet us there a couple of minutes later. Once he got there, we were all loaded with the necessary equipment and ready to go. But only 10 minutes left before closing; it’d have to be a very quick trip. We actually were only out for about 7 minutes, but it was fun! Except that one part…L My friend decided that he was going to rock the canoe, back and forth, from side to side. Now, for those of you who don’t know, I am terrified of water. Any body of water that is deeper than I am tall, murky, or slimy, just plain freaks me out. This was a stretch for me to be out not even in the middle of the lake, though I thoroughly enjoy canoeing with all my heart. With the rocking of the boat, I just was terribly scared. I struggled to express patience! The other three girls screamed at the top of their lungs, but I remained deathly silent. After what seemed forever, it finally subsided and we returned to a somewhat balanced state of being. He then realized that I hadn’t been a participant in the noise of the choir. I then stated that I would appreciate if he didn’t do that again… And what do you know… Before I could explain why, he did it slightly again. After it had once again calmed down, I continued to explain to him to not rock the canoe. He finally figured out that since I was so quiet, that I must be scared of water or really wasn’t enthused by it. Thankfully after that adventure, we rowed safely back to the shore. We quickly exited the craft and made our way to the afternoon meeting. (Later, come to find out - There didn’t have to be an 18 year old in the canoe, just supervising and watching over (even if from the shore). Oh well, we had fun none-the-less). On Thursday, Friday, and Sunday there is typically, weather willing, family freeze tag in the afternoons. Thursday, however, was soaked with a torrential (literally) downpour. It hailed so bad over the auditorium, which has a metal roof, during one meeting that we actually had to postpone the meeting because we seriously could NOT hear the speaker over the booming. It sounded as if we were in a tin can, being rolled over a gravel pit. It was horrible, but thankfully our car wasn’t dented. A friend of ours’ tent was slightly damaged though. It rained and hailed like giraffes and elephants (the hail was the size of walnuts) for quite a while, resulting in NO freeze tag. The alternative was “Land (,/&) Sea.” It’s a game where all of the contestants stand on one side of a line. One side is determined to be “Sea” and the other “Land.” When the positions are called out, you must move accordingly. If you move incorrectly, you’re out. Playing with 200-300 people is really interesting! J I didn’t join in until the last game or two. One time I made it to the last 10-15 people. I had just been unconsciously moving back and forth. I decided that I better start focusing on my movements more and more. Well, wrong-o. As soon as I looked down at my feet, I instantaneously messed up and was out. Oh well! It’s just a game! But hey, I beat the rest of my family! J That’s better than nothing. Friday was an extremely jam-packed day. We had meetings, as usual, and went canoeing for about 10 minutes again. But this time freeze tag was permitted! J I actually was able to participate this year, whereas last year I was down with a cold and stuck inside, looking on at the racing crowds. We must have played for an hour and by the end I was exhausted, yet refreshed all at the same time. Right afterward, we barely caught the last hayride for the day! J Pulled by two Clydesdale horses, we relaxed on bales of hay, enjoying the peace, solitude, and serenity. It’s amazing how those huge draft horses are capable of pulling literally a TON (in lbs.) of people on such a rugged road. Dinner was fabulous! HAYSTACKS, my absolute favorite Adventist meal! J You wouldn’t believe how high I stacked my (first :D) plate! Then came seconds! J I have a feeling they probably lost money on that meal! KIK (inside joke, for Nana! KIK) Sabbath morning I amazingly made it to the showers before breakfast. Some gracious soul preserved enough warm water too! J What a thought! The campus held many more people that day, as many just attend for the weekend. Here is where the adventuresome scene comes in! After lunch, most of my friends hit the water. But my parents had restricted us from going today. They had explicitly announced for ONLY FAMILIES to be canoeing, TOGETHER. Several of my friends disobeyed, but my sister and I stuck to the rules. One of my friends, however, stayed behind with me! Thanks for that! J As we sat in the leaky sailboat and watched those who were out, skimming the tide, we decided to scout out the lake. We only had 30-45 minutes, so we couldn’t dilly-dally, but we believed we could do it! J We skirted around the shore, amused by the zillions of seashells which must have been imported to this manmade basin. There is an old truck on the adjacent beach that we had investigated the year prior, and I wanted to see it once more. I thought it would a good place for a photo shoot of my friends and I; portraits as groups and singles. Unfortunately (Or was it very fortunate? You’ll soon find out!) I had forgotten my camera back at the auditorium. Oh well. I was quite upset when I saw a picturesque setting… There were two geese resting in tall grass on a hill next to the reflecting lake with trees just beyond, bright blue skies; it was a beautiful moment! Then the geese took off, flying low over the lake across the opposite side. I just wanted to slap myself for my “mistake” or forgetfulness, once again. I also saw a lovely butterfly on a flower, but it was all in vain. I must stop wishing for my camera. Surprisingly the shore was hardly muddy at all, as we thought it would have been. We finally reached the rusty, old, broken-windowed, half-sunken into mud, International truck. It wouldn’t be a good place for photos at this point in time. It was a little too muddy from the recent rains and the weeds were a bit high for any real convenience. Glancing at the time on my phone, I realized that we had better be heading back if we wanted to be on time for the following meeting. We were just about to turn back, when my friend estimated that we were about “half-way” around the enclosed (visible) reservoir. We guessed that it would take us about the same amount of time to complete our journey, by just continuing forward. Ha ha! Big joke! But we wouldn’t find that out for some time yet. We quickly set out on foot, counterclockwise, to circle around. Soon after that we encountered a barbed wire fence, which we had to safely pass under. It wasn’t long after that either, however that things got messy! And do I mean MESSY! J We were just a “tad” (KIK) wrong about it being muddy. At least up until this leg of the journey. It wasn’t too terrible to begin with, but a turn-for-the-worse was just around the bend. Crossing leaky streams of inlets of water, we soon discovered the ground was extremely wet; almost entirely! We had to leap across miniature ponds, trek over little rivers, yet we assumed it would be somehow “drier” (understatement :D) underneath the fallen leaves and brush. Finally at one point, past the point of no return, we struggled to find narrow-enough passages to traverse over, yet it still only looked as if we were half way around. Weird thought-it must be our eyes playing tricks on us! Well those leaves that we judged to be hiding drier land underneath were very deceptive. They misled me quite a bit. As I ventured over yet another flowing stream among dozens (at least), I made some miscalculation and landed on a WET patch of leaves. Sliding and slipping, I struggled for my balance as my shoes sunk into 3 inch deep mud! My white shoes that weren’t so white any more, I suctioned out of the gapping earth. I checked the time again. We would be late at this rate, but it shouldn’t be much further. We ended up going farther and farther from the direction we should have gone, due to the fact that we didn’t want to have to swim our way there. We hadn’t been able to see a section of the lake that was very low and just little inlets here and there, but un-passable. We had thought it would be a clear cut around. For sake of time, I’ll spare you of going on for the rest of the length of our adventure. But as you can tell, it was just that, an adventure! For sure! We finally made it back, 15-30 minutes late, with mud on the hems of my pants, in my shoes, and flicked over the back of my shirt and sleeve, from when I yanked my foot up backwards. Yet for fear of being scolded, we hurriedly rushed to the auditorium where we knew our parents would be wondering about us. It was fun! Except… J Two days later… Back at home on Monday afternoon… We were just unpacking everything and getting back into a routine. When I noticed what looked like a scab. I thought, “That’s funny, I don’t remember doing anything…” Well for some reason I picked at it, but it wouldn’t come off. I finally got tweezers and pulled it off. Taking a closer look, I screamed when I realized it had legs! Legs-that were moving and kicking about. I ran to my mom and asked her what kind of bug it was!?! She replied, “That’s a tick. Where did you find it?” I freaked out! I immediately had my mom search my head for any others. She then said, “Did you know you have a scab on the back of your shoulder?” Knowing I had mistaken the other for a scab, I screamed in horror. I panicked suddenly and began screaming! J Dead serious! That un-tolerable sound you heard the beginning of April, that was me believe it or not. I called to my sister to grab the tweezers, and my mom yanked it off after the 2nd try. I literally screamed at the top of my lungs until the ordeal was over with. Anyway, I was glad that was over with, but still freaked by the whole experience and still am to this day. The really scary part is that they carry Lyme disease, which can be gruesome in some cases. No symptoms have shown, and it’s almost 2 months later, so it seems to be all clear! J The bite, on my shoulder, though is still irritated sometimes, but I keep picking at it, so that may be the cause. I’m allergic to band-aids (the adhesive), so I can’t even put one on to keep my poking fingers away. The only thing I could think of, although they warn you at Family Camp of ticks, is that I “contracted” them from my experience in the woods/swamp that Saturday. L Every year at family camp, they serve a light, complementary meal of popcorn, fruit, and salad on Sabbath evenings. Last year they couldn’t have it outdoors because of weather issues. This year, however, J they were able to and it made the moment even more memorable. But before the supper, all my friends and I gathered together behind the cafeteria (overlooking the lake, from up on the hill) at the gazebo for the portraits that I’d been planning on doing. One of my friends, who wasn’t included in our GIRLY gang J, was gracious enough to take the group pictures for/of us all! Thanks, man! All of the pictures turned out exceptionally well, but I have yet to send them to their rightful owners! My bad; sorry guys, I’ll try to do that soon! Dinner was so scrumptious! It was so cool to see a couple hundred people gathered about on the lawn (I’ll post pictures from a view taken from down below). Very memorable! J Sunday morning, that’s the tear-jerker. It really is! The splitting of bound friends, it’s just very emotional. At the very last meeting they always have EVERYONE gather in a big circle around the auditorium to sing “Family, We are Family.” I kept thinking all through it, “I’m not going to cry.” But then when my sister broke through and at the end my friends were crying, I couldn’t help myself. And I just have to say it again to y’all, “I am truly blessed to have each and every one of you guys as my friends! You each have a special place in my heart! J” We then returned to our lodging places and loaded our vehicle, preparing to leave when it was time. We ate lunch in the cafeteria and then with final fare-wells and many tears, parted to our different homes! That’s basically the end of my story! Wow, 5 pages long and I’ve finally completed explaining about a 5 day event! KIK J Hope you all enjoyed it. And for those of y’all who went, I hope you enjoyed reminiscing! And to those who haven’t yet gone, PLAN TO! You won’t have any regrets! Have a great rest of your day! God bless, `janelle` (p.s. I guess I’ll have to tell about more “recent” events another time. At least this is a start; a long start, but a start! J)

Sweet Memories of Grandpa

Hi everyone. Just thought I'd share this with y'all. It hasn't been edited very well, so excuse any mistakes or errors. :) "

I want to write down my short memories of Grandpa, as they come to mind. How times really do change at such an amazing speed. I remember when I was 6 ½ (March ’98?) waking up one morning at “The Ranch” and taking Grandma’s doll, whom I’d named Melissa, (after Mishaela’s sister) outside. I walked over to the left of the back porch/deck to a wooden bench, which Is no longer, and sat there, just sitting there, in the early morning. I’d talk to “my” doll and just watch the view. It was such an incredible view, a fresh new morning gazing past “our” 40 acres of Colorado land, at the Spanish Peaks. My Grandparents had moved here after selling their historic motel in Taos, New Mexico, which the new owner has just demolished. All those memories,… GONE… Now, today, if you go by there it is a fancy, million ++ $$ place; nothing from what I remember of its past. The El Monte Lodge, always and forever a memory. That moment on the bench with “my” doll fades quickly into a haze.

Maybe it’s just from the photos and videos, but I vaguely recall sitting on the [wooden?] floor of the El Monte (behind the front desk?), playing with coffee filters, while still in my PJs.

One even glued firmly in my mind is Grandpa, pushing me on the old, rustic swing out of the motel property/field. As I sat on this make-shift (?) swing, hanging from two ginormous trees, I vividly hear Grandpa. “To the moon,” he says with each push. “To the moon, to Venus, to Mars, to the moon!” With each shove I sail higher and still higher into the air, not aware that this would be one of my few memories of my dad’s father.

I was a sneaky little tike, only at the age of 5 or so. One day I remember sneaking candy, continuously, from the candy bowl in the lobby/reception area. Watermelon Jolly Ranchers! Mmm mmmm! Oh, but those strawberry candies, you know, those ones in the strawberry seed-looking wrappers. Those were my absolute favorite. I still enjoy them when I get the chance!

This one I believe is from my trip to Majors Ranch in March of 1998. One morning I heard a loud “POP.” I came into the kitchen to see what was up. And there, there was Grandpa with a little mouse, caught in a trap. ‘Poor little thing,’ I remember thinking. Cheese and peanut butter were their favorite he told me. From then on I watched ever step, careful not to be a victim of those wretched traps. I stayed to the lush green carpet for a while, daring to save my toes. Skipping quickly through the kitchen to retrieve food from the pantry, I shuddered as I discovered another one.

Once while we were at the local grocery store, Sav-on, I asked for Fruit Roll-ups. I’d seen them in commercials, maybe even had them once at a friend’s house, but never at home; this was my chance. Back at the Ranch, I sat at the small kitchen table, savoring this special treat. Then in comes Grandma, just having to ask… “Would your mother let you eat this at home?” I bashfully thought this one through. But I can’t remember exactly my response. I’m torn between having answered, “ Um, well no…” or was it a shy lie, “yeah.” It could have been yes and then later she checked with mom. Or it could have been no, and being scolded. I’m not sure

Though times have really progressed in the field of electronics, it was still wired into me, many years ago. My grandparents have never really been electronic minded, or at least Grandma. I remember being called into the den to be of assistance with the VCR. Standing on top of a little green plastic chair that resided with that little wooden kiddy table, I controlled the video tape through the controls on the device. I also remember watching “Barnie, “ which I loved! Also the something “Virtue” tapes I enjoyed as well. J

March ’98 visit. I was girded in red sweat pants and a matching white top with a lady bug on it. We drove down the bumpy road in the blue Chevy Suburban. We were heading to another ranch owner’s place. Fun, not. As I sat, bored in the back seat, I was tempted to play with the door handles. Wondering if when the doors were locked, if it would open or not. Finding that it didn’t, after a couple of daring attempts, I was warned by Grandpa not to play with it in cast it opened on me. The thought was still intriguing, so I did it again, yet this time more slowly, resulting in a not so profound thump as I released it. Finally arriving at our destination, we got out and met some old guy named Jim. We were at his ranch, with dozens of horses just roaming about, grazing on grass & drinking from holding tanks. I had more fun than anticipated, and got to experience being around a horse for the first time. I have pictures to prove it too [taken with my own little purple 35 mm cheapo camera. ?]

There wasn’t much in that little town of Walsenburg, and still it hasn’t grown much But there was this little “restaurant,” kind of McDonald’s style, named “George’s.” Being a vegetarian, I was disgusted with the juicy hamburgers and corndogs I saw. But I finally located on the menu something I loved! French fries! You bet, French fries, loaded with lots and lots of ketchup. Reluctant, but obedient, I shared some with Grandpa.

There was also one other restaurant that I recall. I t was more the “elegant,” sit-down to eat type. Ali’s or something or that nature, was on Main St. in Walsenburg. I think you had to parallel park on the street. Once having entered the building, I remember seeing a winding flight of stairs with black power coated railings, and wondering what could possibly be down in the basement. It was something new to me; a little weird. Maybe this place was a pub: I’m remembering seeing a bar to the right side as you walked in. The entrees don’t play a role in my memory, but I remember sitting with my grandparents and being intrigued as a bridal party of sorts was led down those mysterious stairs. When we walked out, I remember staring down and hearing a loud mixed noise of chatter and talking.

On another one of our excursions, we pulled off the road. Not too far off was a volcano. I think I know which one it was too. Maybe it was because I was so ecstatic about blowing mountains, but I am almost certain that it had just erupted. Quite the excitement for one day!

Back to the motel…! When I was little I used to go around with the maids, “helping” them make beds, clean rooms, and whatever else the maids took care of. Or rather, whatever I was able to help with. They’d take me to the coke machine sometimes too. That’s where I had my first Dr. Pepper, and one of the few. J

One evening I remember my grandparents leaving to go somewhere, without me. A special dinner or meeting, someplace I wasn’t permitted to attend. One lady, who I’ve forgotten her name, came to the El Monte to watch the place and me too. I’d sneak into the pantry area and snag some biscuits for the dogs, Lady & Holly (whom have both passed away now). The lady must have been instructed that I was a vegetarian and when I asked her for ice cream, she inquired, “but I thought you were vegetarian and didn’t eat dairy?” I probably tried to convince her otherwise, yet don’t know if I got the requested treat. Chances are that I did not, but most likely when my Grandpa returned.

Short Stories

An Exquisite French Salad by: Janelle Schu
When I walk into a room that smells of warm, roasting vegetables, I smile, knowing Ratatouille is for supper. Colorful and savory, this French entree delights my taste buds to watering. The vibrant mixture of red bell peppers, zucchini, eggplant, and garlic tempts my eyes, but know I must not spoil my dinner. Anxiously I sit down, as my tummy growls, dreaming of taking that first scrumptious bite of chewy pasta and crunchy veggies. I patiently wait, tapping my feet and twiddling my thumbs, waiting for that moment when the round tomatoes come flying out of the oven. Suddenly a timer beeps and I instantly jump to my feet to help serve our exquisite, steamy French salad.
Anticipating Autumn by: Janelle Schu
With anticipation of cooler days, I await autumn, my favorite season. As I glance out of my window, I dream of leaves just beginning to change to colors of auburn, sage, gold, and crimson. I think of what it would be like to walk along a path covered with these dried, crinkly leaves once they've fluttered free from the branches. The thought of a toasty pumpkin pie exiting the oven, accompanied by the escaping, luxurious scent of steamy cinnamon and apple cider from the tea kettle, warms my heart! In my mind, I see a picturesque scene of an apple orchard filled with a large, boisterous farm family, loading the fruit into bushels. Nearby, jolly youth are in the vegetable garden, up-rooting squash, potatoes, and carrots for the winter's stash. A humid breeze of summer's warmth brings me back to reality, reminding me how I truly can't wait for fall!
A Quaint Farmyard by: Janelle Schu
Reliving the memories of centuries past, I imagine a quaint farmyard and a small log cabin, nestled in the back woods of Vermont. Peering through the little glass window panes, I see a family snuggled up in the living quarters, reading the family Bible, and warming themselves by the smokey, blazing hearth. In a days work I can picture the Father tending to the fields of corn, barley, wheat, and oats and the Mother feeding an indoor fire for boiling the water necessary to launder their few clothes with, hauled from the rushing creek. Children fly about as airplanes, eager to help weed up healthy vegetables and clobber the clucking chickens. Strong and helpful, a couple of older youth are mucking out the stalls and administering to the livestock. In the evening, as the sun sets low in the sky, accompanied by a darkening hue of azure, the family gathers together to partake of chunky vegetable stew and warm, toasty cornbread that Mother has made; all from their own land and vigorous, untiring effort. I contemplate what it would be like to join in on such rustic festivities and my mind wanders off yet again. (rough draft)

Facing the Giants of Fear

Yesterday we went hiking/rock climbing at the Four Hills/Manzano Open Space. The plans were to go hiking, but the kids found rocks that looked more challenging. Some places were flat enough to run on, which I got some good exercise... but fatigue follows! ;) Then we climbed up this "mountain." Now I don't know how many of you are aware of this, but I'm extremely terrified of rocks. When it comes to them supporting my weight and finding the next grip to pull yourself up with, that's when I freak. I HATE the "if" factor. (If this rock gives way... If I slip... If...) Several times I felt like giving up and inching my way back down to solid ground. But somewhere deep inside I found this faith, courage, and fearlessness. Maybe some of it had to do with adrenalin, but none-the-less I faced my fear. That big giant of fear. Who stares me in the face. But I defeated it! I fought forward til the end and overcame my enemy! There were times that I thought I could go no farther, seeing that rounded rock with no easy way to grab onto it or the loose rocks that I may loose my footing on. There is one Bible verse that says something about "facing giants of fear" and I've looked for it but haven't been able to locate it. But whatever it is that you may be facing, if you know it's the right thing to do and somewhere deep down inside you know that you CAN do it, give it your all and DO IT! Go for it! Hope I was so sort of inspiration to you today! Have a great one! God bless, `janelle`

Jesus is YOUR Friend, Therefore Let it Show in Your Face

Howdy y'all!

How is everything going for all of you guys??? Everything has been going fairly smooth here... I'm somehow managing to keep up with school, cooking, cleaning, and whatever else I can fit into my limited spare time. For the past month or two I've taken up cooking most of the meals for dinner (which also provides leftovers for lunch the following day) and cleaning the house. I've found a new passion and absolutely love it! This morning I got up and made biscuits and a to-die-for fruit salad for everyone for breakfast! I really enjoy it and plan to continue! I don't know what it is that I find so fun about cleaning and cooking, but I'd so rather cook for 3 dozen people that have to talk in front of people and be the center of attention... Ok, maybe most people don't want to stand up front anyhow, but still... It's so fantastic! In fact I'm making Ratatouille (w/Pasta) for Grandma tomorrow for her dinner! I told her that I was making something, but am keeping it a secret from her as to what it is!

Another thing that's been keeping me "busy" is a new quilt that I'm making for/with my sister. She picked all the materials out and paid for it too! LOL. The main print is a "lime-green," aqua blue, and pink animated floral pattern, with corresponding pink and green squares that alternate. The backing is going to be a matching blue. I'm hoping to have it completed in less than 2 weeks, because my Grandma is due to be released from the nursing home/rehab center (Lord willing) in the next week or two and all of my Dad's siblings are coming in (including a cousin that I haven't seen in 4 years... He'll turn 21 while he's here too! ;D). And I'm sure all my aunts want to see the finished product, since they've seen it in process or heard about it! (BTW, Grandma is out of her wheel chair and up and using a walker now! Praise God! She's still on the road to recovery and prayers are readily accepted!

Our new Wal-Mart opens this Friday (hee hee.. and the Dallas Cowboys' Cheerleaders will be here), so I'm planning on getting school done early that day so I can go "celebrate" by doing a little exploring and shopping! No more traveling into town for stuff, it'll be right here at our fingertips... Though the down side is that our little town is no longer so small. Not only have we acquired a Wal-Mart, but a Sears department store, a Credit-Union branch location, a new Newspaper, talks of a Salvation Army, Home Depot, and the soon construction of a 10 screen movie theater and an 80-room Hotel. They've also recently re-modeled our grocery store (imo, it's to prepare for the coming competition of Wal-Mart...), but none-the-less they've made some nice renovations. Unfortunately, it is really beginning to not feel like home at all. I really don't care for all this "improvement," as I think it will slowly corrupt our humble community. However the one thing I could REALLY use (and believe me I'd USE it ;D) is better cell service so I won't have to go under the bed each time to pick up "Extended Network" to make a phone call. Some of you know how I struggle with this all the time.

We haven't had to go to town recently (in 3 weeks), other than our visits to Grandma on the weekends. My back has been feeling completely fine, other than a little "stiff" here and there. There's more to that, but you'll have to wait 'till later on.

A week ago Steve Wohlberg came out to a near-by local church and we went to one of his meetings last Sabbath. That evening I went with a couple friends of mine to our sister church, where they had the gymnastics team come out from our academy, and a youth-basketball, fun night! I didn't participate in any of the games, but had fun talking with a friend of mine, who I didn't know that well, and man did I find out... HE CAN TALK! LOL. I had a blast just being around people my age. There's something about it that just makes school, life, trials, or whatever just to be easily put behind you that you're more able to fully enjoy yourself! We also went ice skating with some good friends of ours a few weeks ago; it was so much fun! I actually skated for 1 1/2 hours and didn't get too cold!

A couple of weeks ago I had 6/8 more pictures accepted and they are now proudly for sale! This coming week, if time permits, I will be trying to submit more. It's almost overwhelming how many photos that I have that are worthy of being sold, but it's all a matter of effort and time. I've also taken up going through my pictures before I upload and submit them. Briefly, I just blow them up to 100% and check for "perfect" focusing, good/better composition, and just seeing how I could "edit" them and make them my absolute best! Going through old submissions/reviews has been helpful by looking at the picture and trying to find what they found "wrong" with the photo and seeing how I could prevent those mistakes in the future. I think that just cropping pictures to where the eye is more drawn to the object could have a lot to do with upping my rate of acceptance. Though I haven't actually tried submitting images that have undergone my critical eye, I hope this will help me rather than just thinking it looks good, like I've always done before, and hope they're "good-enough." It also may take away the "guilt" that it was my fault the photograph was rejected. At least then I'll know I gave it my all and tried my hardest!

Speaking of pictures... The other day I thought of this an I may as well tell you! Since this summer I'll be at/ON the beach for a week straight with Mom's entire family. (Which I'm looking forward to daily, more and more... I hope this anxious feeling doesn't get too much worse, but I absolutely CAN'T WAIT!)... Well, I have a talent in photography, obviously... (don't take that wrong, that I'd being snobby, vain, or whatever. But honestly I feel God has blessed me with this gift!). And thought that I could put it to use this summer, by doing portraits (on the beach, with palm trees, at a lighthouse, or just wherever in that "tropical" setting) of each of my family members (the 22 of us!) as individuals, groups, and families! As I think about it, I dream more of doing it! I'm overjoyed and just plain, can't wait to do it, providing all goes well! You never know, I may find another passion and go into that business! (Just as a thought... Putting up advertisements of doing scenery portraits around here isn't that bad of an idea...)

Oh and this summer I want so badly to spend a least a couple weeks (straight or spread out) at the Botanical Gardens, taking pictures of all the lovely flowers, barns, and butterflies! This is something I've wanted to do for at least one year and hope to fulfill my wishes, finally-sooner than later!

Goodness! Oklahoma Family Camp is just a month away! I get antsy just thinking about it! I desire so much for that break in school, fellowship with friends, spiritual refreshment, and trip away from home! We forgot to call and reserve a cabin and normally they book up right away. It was 2 days later that we remembered and much to our surprise we got one! Yeah, no camping and no staying in a hotel aways away; we'll be right there on "campus." God is good! I'll have to share as much detail about it, with y'all after the fact. (Which reminds me... I never did finish my adventurous stories of this past vacation to FL... I'll plan to make time for that soon and conclude it).

School is going fantastic here! OMJB! I got behind a day last week and was kind of down about that... We'd been so busy last Friday that I couldn't find any time to do any school work at all. Well, I told my mom not to move it off, but to add it all to Monday's load! Well I worked at it (even with going to the gym and Smiths for 4 hours or more) and got almost all caught up on Monday and as of right now am up to date (minus the Math Test I'll do tomorrow). I'm not behind for that day any more; I'm so happy! I hate being off schedule. Now I think that I'm going to try and fit 6 days of work into 5 days EVERY week, so I can get ahead! I hope my goal plays out and that I can find a schedule that fits all of my needs throughout the day(s)! For English my mom got this new program that I'm really having difficulties doing, for some reason. But Mom and I thought the other day that I'd take posts from my blog starting from the beginning and edit them and start another blog, dedicating it to the re-written posts to compare with! I think I'll really find this interesting, because I won't just be writing some goofy story about nothing, but actually practicing my lessons on my own works.

This afternoon our church/youth group went to the nursing home where my Grandma is and sang 10 songs to the folks there. Afterwards we passed out 35 cloth, long-stemmed, colorful tulips to the "inmates," as my dad likes to call them. It made their day-they smiled so big, sang along, and were so thankful for the blessings, cheerfulness, and encouragement that we brought them. Not only did it fill their hearts with joy, love, comfort, and peace, but it brought us a feeling of happiness, knowing we'd made someone else happy for the glory of God. If you have the opportunity, I highly encourage you to do the same. It truly is refreshing! I had so much fun, just talking with the residents and sharing God's message with them! There is this one lady who sang along with us on the hymns and clapped right along! It brought tears to her eyes when we "performed" for them. We sang to another lady, a room-mate of my Grandma's, privately since she wasn't able to come and participate. She loved having someone think of her. I've learned that it's the littlest things in life that sometimes make the biggest difference (whether it be for better or for worse). It reminds me of a poem:

Smiling is infectious; you can catch it like the flu,

When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner and someone saw my grin

When he smiled I realized I’d passed it onto him.

I thought about that smile then I realized its worth,

A single smile, just like mine could travel round the earth.

So if you feel a smile begin, don’t leave it undetected

Let’s start and epidemic quick, and get our world infected!

~(unknown author)~

Today, believe it or not... In FEBRUARY it was 70 degrees Fahrenheit at 5 pm in the afternoon. It was so nice! This past week we've had just beautiful weather, in the 60s, and perfect for bicycling, running, and sports without the burning heat of summer, yet accompanied with the cool breeze of spring. We really haven't had much of a winter this year... Only an inch of snow here or there, 5 times, if that! It's beginning to look a lot like springtime! Pretty soon all the cool temperatures will subside and the trees will start to bud and grow new leaves, the bulbs begin to pop-up, and the cactus to blooming. I look forward to the prospect of spring, as it opens more doors for vegetation to spring-into-life.

This brings me to the mention of revival. “Re” means again or new and “vive” means life. So thus: New Life. Recently I've decided to start "re-living" my life. In many aspects-spiritually, physically, mentally... etc. (LOL, but not financially)... Over the past month or so I've just been "convicted" about certain areas in my life, slowly... But not until the past couple days have a really taken it all in and chosen to put it into effect, e.g,. Before I thought that going to the gym in the mornings would throw my whole day out of whack and that I wouldn't be able to focus and do school later morning and into the afternoon. However, this past week I've decided that I'm going to re-dedicate my life to my Saviour, only eat food that's good for me (Though I'm vegan almost all the time, I've decided to lay off any sugar that's not in the fruit and the fruit alone... I may look healthy and fit and I may be to an extent, but I know the truth by how I feel), and to exercise at least half of the week for an hour each session. So far, I've been faithful (even refusing myself the ever-so tempting desserts at potluck today... I'm so proud of myself for actually saying no and using my self control). The results of just simply choosing to get up at a decent hour (others would call it early), eating properly, and exercise are spectacular! Three times a week (or more if possible) I go to the gym and do the circuit for 30 minutes, stretch for 10, and then run vigorously on the tread-mill for 20 minutes. I feel so rejuvenated and invigorated! I love it and am motivated! This is why my back has been feeling so amazing lately, due to keeping it in shape. I have more energy and am more ready to face the day and whatever trials may come my way! It's been truly amazing! Today's sermon (we watched a video) by David Shin (a message from GYC) has even helped me even more in choosing to expand my prayer life. I've made up a map of the world and US and marked where each of my family members and friends live across the world, to help me remember each and everyone and pray for them and their needs specifically each and every day! I think it's going to prove very useful! I think some of this "movement" has come from the realization of how fragile, frail, and tender life really is. I knew how serious and critical Nick's case was and everything, but it really hit home a week or so ago... We never know when the end of our lives will be and I've taken on a whole new perspective of life since. I think that has player a part in my decision to take better care of myself. God gave us these bodies to glorify Him (1 Corinthians 6:19), the temple of the Holy Spirit... God wants the very best from us, so why let him down in any area of our lives? I'm also hoping to come up with a mission statement for my life and am praying that I find a way that I can meet and complete my mission to help towards the Lord's return. I really have felt a burden for the "homeless" and needy lately. I guess, just those is general who don't seem to have a chance really, not specifically outcasts, but those who would otherwise may never hear of our loving God and Friend. I don't know how many of you saw the video/"advertisement" on GYC Friday night about the Patten Towers from Southern University and that area's Youth Conference, but something to that effect would be my ideal witnessing tool. I also have a burning desire to help spread the health message, because personally I've found that my mind is more clear and accepting to spiritual matters when I'm exercising and eating healthfully. Help us to "Set Our Faith on Fire" and start a blaze!

Hope you're doing well! And I hope to talk to you soon! It's been too long... Since we've added Grandma to our cell phones I don't have ANY minutes that I can personally use (infact I've used 1 (no joke) minute in the past 5-6 weeks). So, sad to say, it may have to come down to you calling me (if you're able to) if you want to talk, since at least point it's a day by day thing of how packed my weekends are going to be (when I have "unlimited" call time). Luckily you "caught" me in a talkative mood, when I feel that I have time to fill you in on most everything, with the exception of a couple more boring details. My prayer today is that I've uplifted or encouraged you do find a way to put some meaning into your life and share love with others! And that you don't just come here to see what goofy things I've been up to... ;) And to bring a little spunk into your day and make you laugh occasionally. Proverbs 17:22

Talk to y'all soon! Have a great day!

God bless,

Praying Life will Slow Down!

Hi Y'all I hope you're doing well. Most of you I haven't talked to in weeks and I apologize for that. But I hope you'll understand after you hear about what my life has been like for over a month now. Y'all're lucky I actually found the time to sit down for a moment or two and write a few short paragraphs. So I wrote about GYC a while back, so you would know about that. What you don't know however is that that's where our lives just sped up and haven't braked since. After spending a blessing rich week in Minneapolis we got home and the next morning headed to Grandma's for Christmas! It was such a wonderful 2 days that we got to spend with my Dad's family, who we haven't seen in a year or two. To top it off I got a new lens for my camera too! A macro! So keep on the look out for some new close up photos! :D That is if I can find a spare moment to shoot one of these days! Well the day after Christmas Grandma had a gall bladder attack and on the 27th was taken to the hospital. They were going to operate and remove her gall bladder in a couple weeks but she had another attack and they had to do surgery on Sunday, the 30th. After surgery she came down with sepsis. For those of you who don't know what that is: it is poison of the blood. So she had this infection going on inside her body using energy and preventing her from healing. Because of the sepsis her white blood cells multiplied like crazy, her blood pressure dropped, and her kidneys started malfunctioning-classic signs, causing her to be admitted to ICU. One of my Aunts was in for the holidays and was taking care of Grandma, but she had to return soon so Dad went to go spend a week with Grandma and care for her. He was gone for about a week and during that time my best friend spent 6 days with us! With Dad being gone and having to keep up with my best friend's high energy life it just wore me out and I have barely recovered since. When Dad returned another sister took over for him. Also, he brought Grandma's dog, Holly, back with him. She was going into depression from missing her Mama and had to have someone watch over her. Long story short... Holly went completely down hill (and I'll spare y'all the details... they might be gruesome for some of you) and we had to have her put down on the 11th. She would have been 15 this May. On the 10th Grandma was transfered from her local hospital to the ICU at our University (of NM) hospital here in ABQ. While there she received excellent care and slowly began to improve. On the 14th she was moved to a regular hospital room and eventually on the 16th taken to a recovery center/nursing home where she is rehabilitating so she can return back to a normal life. Another one of my Aunts came in on the 12th and stayed with us for a week, just leaving this past Saturday. On the 13th I went to see Grandma for the first time since she'd gone into the hospital (after being there for almost 3 weeks). I spent the whole day there in ICU with her and my aunt. I had brought along the laptop and was able to find internet access that kept me occupied for a while. I also typed up a letter for Grandma covering the events of her life in 2007 to send out to some cousins and family members. Now, keep in mind that during all this I still had to do school every day, clean the house, and just try to live life like normal, while everyone else ran around me trying to make decisions and take care of other things. On the 16th they transfered her to a nursing home here locally and on the 17th I spent the entire day there with my aunt watching over Grandma and getting her settled. We also ran some errands throughout the day and I fit a few school assignments in as well. On Friday we made a "quick" trip up north to get some of Grandma's belongings for her. With a total of 5 hours of driving and 2 hours there we didn't get any school work done but got to spend the evening with Grandma! This last Sabbath I didn't go to church, but rather chose to spend it with my best friend. It was the last opportunity to hang out before she moved to AZ the following day. My Dad didn't go to church either (he hasn't been there in 4 weeks now, because we've been so busy) and went to the nursing home with my aunt one last time before taking her to the airport. I had fun with Jaz and was glad for the few, calm hours I had with her, just hanging low and relaxing. Then we took my aunt to the airport and went to see Grandma. Then we met up with some of our friends and went back to where Jaz and her family were staying to spend a couple last hours with them. Then all 13 of us trekked to Grandma's small room and socialized with her for an hour or two. Okay, I better start to round this up! On Sunday Dad and I went and got Grandma some good water to drink (not the nasty tap h2o they were giving her) and a cell phone! She was so excited to have a phone because she hadn't been able to call anybody for a LONG time! Mom and Nemo came in later that afternoon and we were there the rest of the day. Yesterday we did school, went to town, and had Nemo's skating lessons (that's where we are every Monday evening! lol :D) We also did some shopping and I got a new phone too! http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=mobilephones&type=mobilephones&subtype=verizonwireless&model_cd=SCH-U410MSAVZW Anyway, all in all, I'm just hoping life comes back to normal sometime soon and everything calms down. Somehow I'm managing to complete all my school every day, but have this awful anxious feeling. I think it's because my life has been so thrown upside down and I just don't know what's possibly going to be hit at me next. If y'all could just continue to pray for my family and especially my Grandma I'd really really appreciate it! And you're all in my prayers too! I love you all! Have a great day! ttyl God bless, `cjs`
