Nikon D80 headed my way! I'm so enthusiastic.... You have to read this post and share in my excitement!

Hey Everyone!

Yeah, I know, it’s been two weeks! And a lot has happened, quite more than usual, so that’s why I haven’t been writing for a while! Everything just seems to be occurring at once, but isn’t that the way things always happen?

The last time you all heard (read really) from me would’ve been two weeks ago today, so let’s start from then! Except that the most exciting and prominent event was just two days ago, but it’ll have to wait; the best for last I guess. But most of you probably already know about it, because I couldn’t contain my enthusiasm.

Ok, so the Sunday before last… Sunday, May 13, 2007… I just uploaded pictures most all day, from what I can remember! And talked to my friends and family, oh and it was Mother’s Day! That’s right. Now I recall what we did. And no, I didn’t upload pictures, only a few…! We didn’t do anything special for Mother’s Day, but we did do something that is quite unique and abnormal; we pulled weeds in the front yard and uprooted a tree that had died, as well as our nice big rosemary plant that didn’t survive this past winter. So for a couple hours we pulled weeds, but my mom did most of the work; she was out there for 6 hours and by the end of the day the backs of her legs were sun-burnt to the color of strawberries. That evening we all cleaned up and went to Albuquerque. The pastor at the Height’s SDA church there (who baptized and married my parents and dedicated myself) is retiring and moving, so we went to the retirement/going away party that was being held in him and his wife’s honor. It was a nice festivity and we got home around 10:30 or so.

Monday, May 14, 2007. I did school and at 2 o’ clock (as we do every Monday now) we met at the park in the next town for a prayer session with fellow church members. It’s only supposed to last ½ hour, but it’s been ranging form ¾ hour – 1½ hours, so who knows… And while the adults are praying, I happen to have service and call and talk to my best friend in that duration of time. Then my mom, sister, and I, and usually some friends go to the local gym and work out for an hour or so.

Tuesday… I did school, dishes, and did stuff online for a while. Then we left for town. We had a chiropractor appointment to go to, and lots of errands to run. Finally we got home later that afternoon, no; actually it was more like evening. We didn’t fix any dinner that night, so we just ate cereal.

Wednesday… school. Oh and then I uploaded pictures and made 8 dozen cookies! That took a lot of arm power and muscle to stir all that thick batter of oats. But is worth is because I make about 52% off of each dozen.

Thursday… school… Friday… school.

Sabbath, May 19, 2007. We went to Sabbath School (which actually there wasn’t a class for my age group, since our teachers were gone, so I went to the age group younger than me), church, potluck. And then afterwards the youth rode in a friend’s truck over to an elderly member’s home to sing. We sang a few songs there and then went to another elderly couple’s house where we sang a dozen or more songs and then sat around talking for a long while. We finally got home around 7 or so, and watched some things on 3ABN. My sister spent the night at her best friend’s house.

Sunday, May 20, 2007. Now this was a busy day if one ever was. We got up kind of earlier than normal for a Sunday. I was uploading pictures most all day, which in fact I still haven’t finished that batch; yikes and I need to really bad! But then my mom was getting ready to go to a wedding (the lady who owns the gym that we go to was getting married), and a baby shower was being held at our house that afternoon after the wedding, so I had to clean the house. Then my mom and our friends left for the wedding, leaving me to vacuum and shampoo the carpets, do dishes, dry dishes, put away dishes, clean up all the messes, do laundry, oh and clean and make up my room which I had let go for the past few days, so if you can’t tell I had a lot of my hands with not that much time to complete everything in, by myself no less. So I had my work cut out for me, but I actually had it all done and accomplished by the time a friend showed up to start setting up for the baby shower. The baby shower was for one of our very great friends, she is going to be a grandma! So since her son and daughter-in-law (who we don’t know and have never met. lol) don’t go to our church we decided to throw a different type of baby shower. Everyone brought their gifts unwrapped for everyone to admire and then have a wrapping party! So it was fun and interesting! Oh and of course we had other traditional things that you would see at a baby shower; games, etc. The party was from 2-4(ish), and then afterwards… The had been a graduation/birthday party going on across the street from my house at the same time that day and there were at least a dozen little kids over there. And all of a sudden they invited themselves over to our house to play basketball, swing on the swing set out back, and explore our tree-house, which btw isn’t a real tree house. The trees around here are all bush/evergreens and not very tall, so our tree house isn’t in a tree as you would see in a customary tree house, but ours is made out of trees rather! It’s a “playhouse/fort” on stilts is what it really is. So anyway and any who. These kids were kind of just doing what ever they wanted, including one kid trying to jump out the back of our tree house, which is a 9 foot drop or so. And he was very intent on doing so, the little daredevil, who everyone was calling “monkey-boy.” I can see how he got his nickname too, from wanting to escape over the cliff of our tree house, swing from the monkey bars, skateboard right into my moms flower bed, and be very disobedient. I had told this boy that he wasn’t allowed in the tree house because either everyone (who wanted to) or no one was permitted in the tree house, and since not everyone could fit up in our 8’ x 8’ hut, the answer was no… And yet monkey boy was very determined to get his way to enter the fort, so much that I had to continually tell him 3-4 times “NO. MY DAD SAID HE DOESN’T WANT ANYONE UP THERE.” (Actually, the truth is my dad hadn’t told me that, but I almost knew for certain that my dad didn’t want anyone up there with that many anxious little ones running around. And I hoped that if my dad said anything about going up to the tree house that he would agree with what I had just said…) Turns out later the persistent “brat” did go and ask my dad if he could go up into the tree house, and fortunately my dad told him the same thing I had told the little rascal. Anyway! The rest of the evening we had little scoundrels roaming about our acre. Then after all the little ones returned to their rightful homes... we hung out across the street in my neighbors old, junky, wooden, empty, home-made hot tub. We just goof off; tell stories, and talk, not really interesting. But because we hung out in that hot tub, it began our club “The Hot Tub Gang/Club.” Anyway…

Monday, May 21, 2007. My dad left early that morning to go to Manchester, New Hampshire for a business trip, visiting customers and whatnot. That evening he was somewhere on the east side of Lake Champlain. We did school, had our weekly prayer meeting with the church family who shows up, and exercised!

Tuesday I had to finish and complete my school work earlier than normal because we had our 6 month check up/cleaning dentist appointment to make. So I actually got done and made good time, leaving a bit of spare time to do dishes, and goof around online. In town we were just a few minutes late for the scheduled appointment, which was good because we thought we were really going to be late; we hadn’t realized how the time was ticking by flying right past us. Anyway. After that we ran a few errands, going to our favorite book store Title Wave Books, shopping for potluck supplies for the church at Costco, and getting a few items at Wal-Mart, and then my sister wanted to go to Hobby Lobby so we went there and ended up buying some yarn for a special, secret project! But the yarn is the hardest I’ve ever had to deal with (maybe the hardest ever…) and it’ll take me a while, so… Hint hint hint, I need a few phone calls every week from all of you so I can have time to sit down and crochet! lol and on the way home we stopped at the library and signed up for the summer reading program. The prizes this year for my age group are: a bike, gift card for Target, and a gift card for Dions (a really really great pizza places in Albuquerque). Which btw I won the Dions certificate last summer for my library, so that was awesome and the food was delicious as ever! For our reading program they count the hours, not the books, and as of today I’m at 3 hours! But I thought that I could count all the hours from the start of the program (which for me is 12 hours), but really I can only rightfully count them from the time I signed up, which is a bummer! So if I’m not with my neighbors or out and about somewhere or on the phone with one of you or chatting or email or uploading or taking pictures or… I’ll have my nose stuck in a book as often as possible! My goals for reading this summer are… Reading the entire Laura Ingalls Wilder series (including the series’ about her Great Grandmother, Grandmother, Mother, and Daughter, and all the other complimentary books that go along with that families history and such) I have 42 books on their family and plan to read all of them before I read any others, so I have lots to read! I’ve read 3/42 in the past week, so I’m making good progress, but could be much better and plan on reading more than that (doubled if possible) this coming week! Tuesday night my dad was in Massachusetts! That day while we were at Costco too I had seen the Nikon D40X for sale, and called my dad to tell him. We talked about it for a while, toying with the idea of buying it… And then that evening my dad and I both got online doing research on cameras and reading reviews on them/it while we were on the phone talking. Anyway… this thought was born in my mind, which later (for those of you who I haven’t told yet) you will find out about.

Wednesday I did school and took 260 pictures out in my yard. Our columbines are blooming, as well as some other odd looking flowers, the field out back (& front!), and some late blooming irises. So I have my hands filled with time and patience and opportunity to take dozens of dozens of dozens… of awesome looking pictures. And taking the opportunity first to get out there and use my spare time and develop patience for sitting down to get the most perfect photograph ever of/on my own and get the focusing just right. It takes lots of perseverance, and not everybody is called and qualified for that! Also we hung out with my neighbor (the oldest one who is moving, for those of you who know him) all day, and he came over to skateboard and I got some good shots of him for those of you who want to go check out my friend’s album (if I have given you the link, since this album is not public). I’ve been trying to get some good pictures of my friends’ skateboarding (not so much of the friends’ but of the jumps, catching them in mid air, with the board… it’s awesome and I really am trying to get some good ones without any faces showing so I can try and sell them on LuckyOliver). So with 260 pictures, I have my work dished out for me, hopefully not too big of a bite though! And dial up it’ll be a while before I get these next 50 or so up onto my online scenery album. And then to top it all off I have to put all the same pictures (almost 100 of them I’m guessing) onto LuckyOliver to try and see how many are accepted for sale. That’s going to be rough, getting them all done. Oh and then I have another 1.87 GB to put onto CDs that I’ve taken since I put my other 11 GB onto CDs as a back up. So I have to do that sometime. But once I get that done and if I don’t have all my pictures up onto LO but they are on CDs, maybe I can go to work with my dad sometime and use their high speed internet to upload them for submission. Wednesday evening my dad was in Connecticut! Oh and Wednesday I did my final lesson of math in Algebra 1.

Thursday… School… And that evening there was a church board meeting at a friend’s house, so we went to that. I was either on the phone talking to my dad, nana, or best friend or online the whole time. While I was online I was bored and checked out my favorite baseball team-The St. Louis Cardinals! Go team! And turns out they’re playing against my 2nd favorite team, the Colorado Rockies, this week (Mon-Thurs), but unfortunately we can’t make it, and it’s being held up in Denver! The board meeting finally ended around 9:30 pm and we got home sometime a little before 10:00 p.m. Thursday night my dad was in Rhode Island. He’s quite a traveler, 5 states in 5 days!

Friday, May 25, 2007. I did school, with only 4 more days left too! That afternoon-evening my dad returned home! Yeah and here comes the biggest and greatest news so far this year! So I’d mentioned earlier that my dad and I had been toying with the idea of buying the Nikon D40X, but after reading some reviews, I decided I’d be better off spending a little more and getting the Nikon D80 which has more features! Well all week since Tuesday I’d been discussing it with my dad, and by Friday I had made up my mind and went for it! My dream! I ordered the Nikon D80 (a Digital SLR, yes, yippee, horary, awesome, sweet, cool, neat, fantastic, amazing, great, fabulous, curlicues (lol, randomness), dude!) and the order will be processed Tuesday and hopefully it’ll be shipped out ASAP and get to me within a week or two! I’m bouncing off the walls with enthusiasm, excitement; I’m ecstatic, eager, and full of zeal, zest, passion, gusto, fervor! The list could go on and on and I really couldn’t express how excited I am! This has been my fantasy to own my very own and use and just in general have a DSLR! Anyway! I’m trilled, tickled pink, energized, wound up, delighted, over joyed, and pleased, as I said the list could go on forever and ever. Oh we were watching a friend’s dog Friday-Sunday too for them.

Sabbath! We went to church, helped set up, went to Sabbath School, church service, and then everyone went over to the church property for a group photo, and then went back to the church to break down. We ate lunch when we got home; I was starved! Then the rest of the afternoon I was over across the street watching and helping my neighbors load and pack up their U-Haul. It turns out that my neighbors had some problems with the people at the dog sitting place, so my sister and I are watching Bubby for them. I also talked to Nana and my best friend yesterday! And then in the evening a friend and his sister came and picked me up to go to a youth special night out/gathering/bonfire/game night with our church at a member’s home. We played hot potato, musical chairs, and another game which I won’t say what it was because it’s mean and if I said how it works I wouldn’t be able to pull the joke/prank off on one of you one day! lol Then after a while we all headed outside to the campfire put where a bonfire (more like very tiny bonfire, or a small campfire. lol) We had hotdogs (vegan!, Big Franks), chili, and marsh-mellows cooked over the fire on sticks, and then later on they brought out some corn and threw it in the fire for 15 minutes to roast it; it was so scrumptious! And I stayed out until 10:30 p.m. having the time of my life. lol!

Today. Sunday, May 27, 2007. A church member, who has had cancer for the past 10 years or more, finally passed away early this morning. He never really came to church because he was so weak, and they expected him to go anytime back 2-4 years ago, but he kept hanging on, until he reached his end. His birthday would’ve been this coming Tuesday. But this morning I got on the computer, chatted with a few of you. Then a bolt of lightning struck less than ½ sec away and it actually lit up the already bright computer room, scaring me half to death. Not wanting to loose any pictures if my computer happened to be damaged, I said bye to everyone I was talking to, logged off quickly, and shut it down AFAP. (lol as fast as possible) Then I continued to talk to Nana on the phone, until my parents arrived back from visiting the wife and family of the man who passed away. I ate lunch from Taco Bell that my parents brought back with them and then I vacuumed out my dad’s truck. It was a complete mess-mud chunks every where and it was despicable. By the time I finished I bet I got ½ cup of dirt out of there; I told you it was nasty. Then my dad and I went to the church property because some people from other church in NM were coming to look at our layout/floor plan of our church because they might want to use the same blueprints. We were over there for a while, and then my mom came over. My sister had gone with her friend who had come by to pick up their dog. So it’s kind of boring, so I called and talked to one of my friends (who is a photographer too) for a while, sharing my news of my camera! As I tell more and more people and dwell and think about me getting my camera, it becomes more realistic each time. At first it was like yeah, I ordered, so what. Then I started telling others and it hits me that it’s true and real, I am going to get it! Anyway, my mom and I came back to the house, where I’ve been uploading pictures ever seen. And if some of you want to look at those pictures of the columbines and whatnot, just click on this link. Ok, well I think I’m done with this update for now! It’s been a great week and day! And I’m assuming it’s only going to get better, Daddy has the day off tomorrow, I finish school Thursday morning, Nana comes in Thursday evening, my camera comes in sometime, and the list goes on and on. Of course I can’t have all good things, my neighbors are moving… My friend who just came here from Panama, she’s going back the end of June. Bummer! But it’s over all its all good and the good out ways the disappointments! Hope you’re all enjoying yourselves and having such a great time as I am. Oh and also I’d like to ask you all to pray for our church. Specifically the drilling of the well; they’ve dug two holes (about 120 feet deep or so) and both times hit caves, now they’re on the 3rd hole and at 540 feet or something like that, so they’re not finding water. And rumor is that 2 miles north of the church property there are caves as big or bigger than Carlsbad Caverns. Just pray that we find water and soon and enough for what we need. Best Day Ever!

Hey Everybody!

I can’t contain my excitement from yesterday and have to share it with you all! Get ready for take off! 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Blast off!

So I don’t think I’ve mentioned that my one friend who lives here with his dad, who went back to Panama for two months, was coming back… Although I’m sure I mentioned it to almost all of you! Anyway… My friend and his 18 yr old sister came back/to here from Panama on Thursday evening. I was really really really really really…. etc. excited! I hadn’t seen him in two months and then was anxious to meet his sister, even though she speaks only 10 words or so in English; Spanish being her fluent language. I was really enthusiastic! And couldn’t wait until Sabbath to see them at church, but patience must be practiced…

In the mean time I filled my time with not spending my entire time on the computer or phone, with the exception of Friday, and hanging out with neighbors across the street. Since they’re moving sometime soon, I wanted to spend all the time with them I can, otherwise I’m bored and then will regret it this summer when I really don’t have any options of people to hang out with… So my neighbor across the street, who is my age, has been remodeling/ rebuilding the engine of his 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser. I spent most evenings at another neighbors house across the street watching and slightly helping them restore this car. Finally they finished it Wednesday night, hooray! Then during the day(s) I just hung out across the street or over here, goofing off, like I like to do!

Thursday afternoon I helped my neighbor, who is my age, with some of his final English assignments of his sophomore year: typing up poems, typing up a essay on the Contradictions of the Iraqi War, and an essay on things he learned that year, etc…

Friday I spent 4 hours on the internet goofing off, checking email, and doing webcams with some fantastic friend! Then I spent almost 3 hours talking to the same friends… I was tired when I finished. Then I talked to Nana for a while, ate dinner, and talked to my best friend, who lives in Idaho!, in the evening, and finally went to bed sometime around 9:30. That’s went to bed, not sleep, I actually fell asleep sometime around 11:00 p.m.

As for weather… it’s been so nice around here lately. In the upper 70s and mid 80s! I wish the weather was like this 24/7/365! More on the beauty of our New Mexican spring scenery later… including photos, that is if I can get them on here without having to upload each one, which btw takes forever with dial up… I just have to many awesome photos to share with ya’ll.

Here are some pictures that I took during the week:

A bird nest (I think it’s a swallow’s nest) across the street at our neighbors, in a cholla cactus! This picture shows one of the (there are three babies) baby birds with it’s mouth open/in the air!

Some yellow weeds/flowers growing in our backyard. Our entire backyard looks like this, along with some purple Verbena flowers too, which fyi are edible. Maybe more pictures of the scenery of my yard another time!

A gorgeous sunset Wednesday night! This is looking out my garage over the neighbors fence, out of the valley we live in! Unfortunately these aren’t the true colors of the sunset, but they are more dramatic than what I saw in real life!

Ok, now I can tell you about yesterday! Hallelujah! So, we get to church and set up and then my friends arrive! I welcomed him back and met his sister. Who, btw, is very beautiful; complexion, smile, etc.! I’ll hopefully be putting pictures up today of her and her brother onto my friend’s album, for those of you who have the link! And if you don’t just email me and ask for it! Anyway, she knows minimal English (next to nada), so it’s very hard to communicate, when I know nada Espanola.

And I’d like to ask all of you to keep her in your prayers (most of you know her name… but not to publicize it, I’m not mentioning it.) because she’s going through a rough time being in a strange country with lots of people who can’t talk to her and she really misses her mom and boyfriend. It’s got to be weird and scary coming to a new country where you only know your dad and brother and am an awful distance from home. So please pray for her! Speaking of her being new here, I made every effort to smile and be friendly; making her feel welcome!

Then after church their family came over for lunch; which was delicious!

After devouring that amazing food… we all got our shoes on and rode the 30 minutes or so to La Cienega Canyon hiking trails! As we drove through that canyon there was a creek/spring flowing alongside the road. When we got out of the cars it sounded so peaceful! The sound of a rolling brook and the swish of the small sized waterfalls! The one down point of my favorite place/trail (Faulty Trail), which isn’t where we went, is that you can hear the hum of I-40 and see it… But here, you’re up in the mountains/the seclusion of the ranges above and valleys beneath, amidst the greenness of the trees growing beside the stream. I love this place so much I could almost rate it over Faulty, but this is my 2nd favorite place on earth! The bummer is that it’s more a “attraction” than Faulty, more well known, so sadly there are more people, which make it not as undisturbed. Anyway, we got along hiking and enjoying ourselves utterly!

Besides meeting my new friend and seeing my old one/her brother and spending the entire day with them…! The second greatest event of the day was this! My friend and I were walking along, just a few yards behind the rest of the crew, when my friend says to me “Bear!” Startled and shocked I asked “where?” and looking to my left I see this mother brown bear and a lighter brown cub up on a hill; staring at us! I called to the rest of the group up ahead and surprised they turned around to come see this for themselves! The mama bear being worried for her babies(‘) safety began to climb up the embankment. I would say (although my judgment may not be accurate…) they were a good 150 ft. away from us. Then as they began they’re departure, we realized that there were actually 2 light brown cubs along with the mama, not just one. I wish I could have gotten closer to take a more clear and perfect photograph, but with a mom and two cubs, you don’t want to take that chance or risk.

That was really exciting! But here are some more pictures from the rest of the hike!

I forgot to mention earlier… the stream that was flowing along the road, and by the cars also curved along the path of the trail. At one point you cross over it on a bridge and then back over once more. But then it stops… Actually it doesn’t stop, that’s where it begins. It’s a spring, not just a creek or a stream! You can actually see where it comes up out of the ground and makes a pool and starts it’s course downstream over rocks, forming lovely waterfalls and cool dams/puddles. As you can see in this picture below… the water “shoots” out of the ground forming ripples in the pond.

Kodak moment for sure! Someone happened to spot this ant hill with a smiley face on it! Awesome and stunning huh!?!

One of my favorite pictures! The stream, not too far from where the spring erupts, flowing down into this dam. This was so beautiful, too bad the photo doesn’t capture the sound of rushing waves!

And that was my adventure on the hike. I wish I could’ve enjoyed it more and taken hundreds more pictures! Sometimes I get over whelmed by how much scenery there is to explore and encapsulate!

After the hike we had AY, had a devotional and sang ½ dozen songs or so! It was a blast, and the best part that I enjoyed was seeing my new friend laughing along with us at some really goofy, stupid things, and trying to sing along; off-key too, on purpose! Her and her brother were acting really silly and it was an awesome feeling that I can’t really describe… seeing her begin to fit in and have fun/enjoy herself!

Then after AY everyone came over to our house to play basketball to get my new friend to bond even more, since she is 6’2’’ and loves that sport! She loved it and that made me so glad she’s feeling a tad bit better. But she still needs prayers, since home sickness isn’t easily overcome. We had 16 kids playing basketball last night… Plus 2 adults or so. It was awesome, having 4 people from each team rotating on the court… Those are just the people playing. Really we had 23-25 people over. I invited my 5 neighbor “kids” (lol) over too, so we got to socialize with them and hopefully be a influence with our church and open more doors to leading them to the Lord!

And finally everyone ate dinner and left around 9 p.m. It was the best day ever (this year!), just wish all of you could’ve been there, that would have made it “perfect!”

I talked to my best friend for an hour or so last night and then went to bed!

I had the most fun since I’ve had in a long time. And some of you know what I’ve been going through, so this was a big plus for me!

Life is Sweet!

Hey everybody! I could go on and on about what I did yesterday! But I'll keep it short (and sweet!) We went hiking up at Faulty Trail, with Tremantine Falls, my favorite place in the whole wide world... I took 180 picture (but don't worry only 40-50+ or so are/will be on my online photo album... http://picasaweb.google.com/caleyjanelle/Scenery?authkey=2D7X8SLX9rI but hopefully I'll go through them later on this afternoon and be more selective about which ones are on... to save your time and my space.) Atleast 50+ were out of focus, so not that many were all perfect... Anyway, on Monday-Wednesday it poured, drenching us with rain, which in turn makes the waterfall fall, which is rare! So it was very peaceful and lovely yesterday! I honestly could easily spend 2-3 days up there just enjoying the scenery/greenness and taking hundreds after hundreds of photos! Oh, and yesterday as all the dads (the moms stayed home and relaxed... even though this hike was so relaxing...) were talking while the kids and I were up playing the creek, building a dam and what not, when the dads noticed something moving in the bushes...
